Big Orange Cross Country Preview

Oct. 27, 2011

With the Southeastern Conference Championships approaching on Monday, UT Director of Track & Field/Cross Country J.J. Clark and seniors Chris Bodary and Brittany Sheffey took time out to share their thoughts about the season and the upcoming meet at Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville.

Bodary, from Downingtown, Pa., has led the Vols in all four of their races this season and has posted three runner-up finishes along the way. He was second at the Tennessee Invitational on this course, running a time of 25:24.52 on the 8K layout on Sept. 17, and is coming off a second-place showing at the Crimson Classic two weekends ago. Bodary was 31st at the SEC meet last season.

Sheffey, who hails from Bellport, N.Y., on Long Island, also has paced her Lady Vol squad in all four competitions in 2011. She won the 5K Tennessee Invitational on this course on Sept. 17 and was the victor two weekends ago at the 5K Crimson Classic. Sheffey redshirted last season due to injury, but she was an All-SEC performer in 2008 and 2009 with 12th-place finishes on each occasion.

Clark, meanwhile, is entering his 20th overall SEC Championship meet. This is his 10th while at Tennessee but first leading the Vols after taking over the men's cross country program during the summer. He has produced five SEC women's team champions during his career, including a three-year run by UT from 2003 to 2005.
