April had a solid sophomore season…She played in all 34 games and earned her first two career starts in games versus LSU and Arkansas… Logged almost 18 minutes per game… Averaged 5.4 ppg, 1.6 rpg and 2.2 apg…Found the range for double-figures in five contests including a stretch of three consecutive SEC games where she averaged 14.3 ppg…Tallied more than four assists in 10 games… Bombed in 40% of her three-pointers… Ranks in the all-time Top 10 of each Lady Vol career three-point category… Has narrowed the distance between herself and fellow junior Kara Lawson for best three-point field goal percentage ever…Kara is first with .4259 and April is third at .416…She tied her career high for points with 19 versus Mississippi…Reset career highs in rebounds (five vs. Louisiana Tech) and steals (four vs. Memphis) as a sophomore…Was “instant offense” in UT’s game at Texas Christian University… In a little over three minutes, she tossed in 11 points (including three treys) to help turn a four-point deficit into an 11-point lead…Her hard work in the classroom was rewarded with a spot on the All-SEC Academic team…
TENNESSEE 1999-00:
A pleasant surprise as a rookie who quickly picked up the Lady Vol system…Played in all 37 games averaging over 16 minutes per contest… Season averages were 4.6 ppg, 1.2 rpg and 1.6 apg…Turned in three double-figure games including a career high 19 points versus Florida in the SEC Tournament…Her play off the bench against the Lady Gators was her finest collegiate performance as a rookie, as she bombed in four treys for a 6-7 shooting night…Grabbed a then-career high five rebounds against Furman in NCAA opening round play…Dished out eight assists against South Carolina and claimed three thefts in the first meeting with UConn…Was injured in the opening minutes of play against Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament and only logged six minutes of playing time…Came off the bench against Virginia in regional play and contributed 13 key points including some rainmaker treys…Hit a big three-ball late in the game at Vandy to cut the Lady Vols’ deficit to two points and to stop the Commodore run…UT won the game, 59-57…Also had the second-best rookie trey average alltime… A standout in the classroom, April earned Dean’s List honors each semester at UT.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Hails from the same hometown, (Connersville), as Lady Vol assistant coach Al Brown…As a high school senior, April was considered to be the number two-rated guard in the nation by the Blue Star Index…She was named as a 1999 second team All-American by USA TODAY and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)…Played in the WBCA High School All-Star game in April 1999…Also earned Parade High School All-America honors…Was a finalist for the Naismith High School Player of the Year Award won by fellow Lady Vol signee, Kara Lawson…April was named first-team All-State-ICGSA by the Louisville Courier-Journal and the Hoosier Basketball magazine… She holds the Connersville High School record for most career points (1,908), assists (441), steals (387) and three-point field goals (206)…Recorded a single-game high of 50 points… Her teams won at least 20 games in each of her seasons at Connersville while claiming two Olympic Conference titles, four Section Championships and two regional crowns…Led her team to a 23-1 mark, including a school- record 23 consecutive wins during her senior season…As a junior, CHS rolled to a 22-4 season…April tossed in 17.3 points while handing out 5.0 assists and snagging 5.0 steals per contest…Was the Nike All- America Camp one-on-one champion as a junior…When she was a sophomore, CHS turned in a 20-2 slate as she averaged 19.5 points, 4.9 assists and 4.5 steals per game…Found time to earn two varsity letters on the tennis team and one letter as a member of the softball team.
NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL:
April was named as an AAU All-American in 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998 and 1999…She was the MVP of the AAU 16-and-under National Tournament… Led her AAU teams to six Indiana state championships…Her 1995 AAU squad claimed the national title and was the runner-up in 1997…Has traveled throughout Europe with her AAU teams.
PERSONAL:
April is enrolled in the College of Education and thinks she might like to teach and coach one day…Also has her sight’s set on earning a master’s degree in sport management…Says her biggest thrill in sport was being named as Indiana’s Miss Basketball…Was a member of the National Honor Society and earned an Academic Honor Diploma in high school…Is a 10-year member of the 4-H Club…Grew-up on a cattle and grain farm in rural Indiana…Her favorite place back home is on the basketball court her dad built in the barn… Enjoys horseback riding and playing the guitar…Other hobbies include camping, riding her four-wheeler, tennis and golf…Was a gymnast for eight years and chose to wear the number 10 in basketball because it was the perfect score in gymnastics…Has modeled her game after Hoosier State legend Larry Bird…April is older sister to Amanda, who is 10-years old and claims to be a future Lady Vol…April Dawn McDivitt was born on Dec. 9, 1980…Her parents are Joe and Cathy McDivitt.
