TASHA BUTTS

Graduate Assistant * Milledgeville, Georgia

Tasha Butts begins her first season as a graduate assistant on the Lady Vol basketball staff. Butts, a four-year letterwinner on the UT basketball team from 2000-04, will be responsible for assisting Nikki Caldwell and the rest of the coaching staff with recruiting.

During her playing career at Tennessee, the Milledgeville, Ga., native helped lead the Lady Vols to an astounding 124-17 (.879) overall mark en route to three NCAA Final Four appearances. Additionally, she was part of four Southeastern Conference regular-season championship teams, as UT compiled a 55-1 record during her four years.

Individually, she ranks tied for fourth all-time at Tennessee in games played (141) and is tied for seventh in three-pointers made (103). During her senior season, Butts assumed the role of point guard after teammate Loree Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury in the win over top-ranked Duke in January. En route to helping propel the Lady Vols to a berth in the 2004 NCAA Championship Game, the senior captain earned second-team All-SEC honors and had numerous memorable performances. Among her highlights was a pair of last-second game-winning baskets in back-to-back NCAA Tournament victories over Baylor and Stanford, as she joined teammates Shyra Ely and LaToya Davis on the All-Midwest Region Team. Also notable was her 37-point performance in the triumph at Vanderbilt, which was the 11th-best single-game point total in UT history.

The 20th pick in last spring's WNBA Draft, Butts is currently a member of the Minnesota Lynx. During her rookie campaign, she appeared in 30 games and posted averages of 2.5 ppg and 2.1 rpg. She helped the club equal a franchise record for wins (18) and earn a spot in the playoffs for just the second time.

Butts graduated with a degree in sport management from UT in May and is currently pursuing her master's in recreation and leisure studies.
