HEAD COACH Pat Summitt
(on UT's performance)
"I thought we did a lot of good things. Going inside has to be a priority for us. I thought we definitely did that."
(on Glory Johnson's performance)
"She's running the floor hard. She's inside. She just really brings a lot of energy to this team."
(on Ariel Massengale returning)
"When you have a point guard like that, it allows everyone else to feel good about what she's doing. She distributes the ball. There's no doubt about it. I just think that she's one of the best point guards in the country."
(on Tennessee's defense at Auburn)
"We started out a little slow but I think our defense really picked up. They're buying into the concept of defense and boards. We keep talking to them about that all the time. I thought we did a lot of good things tonight in that regard."
(on playing four games in eight days)
"I think we're going to have to give them some time off. Obviously, they can get in the gym and get some shots up. We have to be smart with this team. It's kind of a wait-and-see. Give them a day off and maybe come back to next day and they just shoot free throws."
ASSISTANT COACH Mickie DeMoss
(on being able to play well without shooting well)
"We did start off really well shooting the ball and then we went cold. That's the mark of a great team that you can still shoot the ball that poorly and be able to lock people down on the defensive end. We were proud of the fact that we were still playing hard on the defensive end and we were still rebounding regardless of our shots not falling."
(on bringing Vicki Baugh off the bench)
"It's worked so far. I think she can sit and kind of watch the game. She gets a feel for the flow of the game and the tempo of the game. A-Town (Alicia Manning), you have to give her a lot of credit because she brings a lot of energy to start the game and I think our team feeds off of that energy. Right now, it's a good combination for us."
(on Ariel Massengale)
"I think Ariel brings a lot of confidence. She does have that calming effect. The players know she knows at all times what is going on. She's very aware. She's very alert. She's like a quarterback for a football team. She knows where everybody is supposed to be so they depend on her a lot. She has gained a lot of respect from those players."
(on UT's multiple defensive looks)
"I thought that was very effective, the switching of the defenses. I thought it was very timely. They would start getting in a rhythm against our man. They were penetrating and kicking. Then we went to the zone which slowed them down a little bit and then we'd go back to man. I think that's a strong point of this basketball team that we are able to play multiple defenses."
SOPHOMORE GUARD Meighan Simmons
(on having Ariel Massengale back in action in the backcourt)
"I am very comfortable playing with (Massengale). She brings extra energy. With me and her out there in the backcourt, and having Strick (Shekinna Stricklen ) in there that really does help out a lot."
(on the team's improved defense)
"I think (the defense) has gotten better. We are in practice constantly working on defense. I think we have spurts in the game where our defense shows from our practice. We transfer it over from our practice to the game. I feel we have to be that way for every SEC game from here on out."
(on playing defense to offset poor shooting)
"We got our transitions points, and transition points are a big part of our game. With our defense rotating and being in the passing lanes and getting steals, I think that helps us out and gets us scoring early in the game."
(on getting the transition game going)
"Coach Dean (Lockwood) has told us in practice, when we are in the passing lanes and we get our transition points, we won't even have to worry about our offense. We can get it on defense, push the ball up and we will go from there."
(on playing four games in eight days)
"Coaching staff might not do (practices) different, they will still go hard on us because they know we need to get better at every aspect of the game. I think (Jenny Moshak) is going to help us get our legs relaxed and make sure we are refreshed for the next game."
