#5/6 Tennessee Game Notes: at South Carolina, Jan. 20, 2011, Game #20-18-2, 6-0 SEC
Tonight's starters: freshman Meighan Simmons, senior Angie Bjorklund, sophomore Taber Spani, junior Kelley Cain, junior Shekinna Stricklen.
The Lady Vols had six turnovers and shot just 2-of-8 in the first five minutes of the game, and were trailing 12-4.
The Lady Vols held South Carolina scoreless from 16:08 to 9:01 in the first half (over seven minutes). During that time, the Lady Vols used an 11-0 run capped by a timely Taber Spani three to go ahead 15-12 with 9:22 remaining until intermission.
Angie Bjorklund pump-faked and then drilled an off-the-dribble three-pointer to barely beat the halftime buzzer and put Tennessee ahead, 33-26, at the intermission.
Meighan Simmons' "And-1" layup 2:51 into the second half put the Lady Vols up by double figures, 40-30, for the first time in the contest. Those were Simmons' first points of the game, she finished with 16 points, all in the second half.
South Carolina's Markesia Grant stole the ball from Simmons and made a fastbreak layup to bring South Carolina within five points, 57-52, with 4:57 left in the game.
Ieasia Walker fouled out with 2:08 reamining in the game. She finished with a game-high 24 points - 19 in the second half.
Tennessee held its eighth straight opponent below 40 percent shooting from the field, as USC shot 32.9 percent.
Tennessee's 55.6 percent three-point shooting (5-9) is its best this season.

Junior Shekinna Stricklen
Recorded her third double double in four games with a career-best 16 rebounds and a season-high-tying 18 points. She has six double doubles this season and 12 for her career.
Sophomore Taber Spani
Tied a career-high with three treys. Finished with nine points - all in the first half.
Redshirt junior Kelley Cain
Finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for her second double double of 2010-11 and eighth of her career. She also contributed a season-best six blocks and shot 5-of-7 from the field.
Freshman Meighan Simmons
Scored 16 points - all in the second half - and had a game-best four assists.
