TENNESSEE HEAD COACH Pat Summitt
(opening remarks) "I thought our starters got us off to a great start in both halves. In the end, we were able to close it out. What came in between came from our substitutions and our lack of commitment to our scouting report. Their best three-point shooter (Abi Ramsey) got too many touches. Our bench was not strong today. I'm really happy for our team. They brought a lot of energy at the end of the game."
"Our team needs to play with more consistency. That starts with the players. We need to see a different level of play. We're playing in spurts. If we don't come out with a win today, I'm upset with some of the substitutions that I made. If we want to be a team that's alive and well and advancing in March, we've got a lot of room for improvement. We've got time now, but time is running out."
(on bench play) "There have been games that I felt our bench made a difference. In the loss to LSU, our bench was key. Today, we didn't have it."
(on Tye'sha Fluker) "Fluker has got to get better defensively. After the game, she said that she's got to get better defensively. Our post defense was exposed today."
(on Alexis Hornbuckle) "If she can find the three-point shooter, that's good. She's starting to identify personnel. She anticipates well and boards well for us. Playing on the wing is a good place for her."
(on how many players she will play going into the postseason) "Our players have between now and the postseason to establish their roles. We'll evaluate them in practice and try to get them into the game to evaluate them in game situations. Whether we shorten our bench or use the depth that we have will depend on them. Some players may play themselves out of a role. Nothing is predetermined between now and the end of the SEC Tournament."
"I thought we got better shot selection today. We had transition opportunities and more fast-break opportunities today. Even when we didn't score off our first shot, we got into our offense quicker."
(on Candace Parker) "A decision will be made one way or another this week."
(comparing this year's team to last year's at this point in the season) "I thought the most important thing from that team was its competitiveness and how well it played together. This team has the talent to go where we need to go. Everyone needs to play together. Tonight, I thought we did a better job of playing as a team."
"We got better looks today. We're playing better as a team. That was our emphasis from the get-go. Whether its from penetration or kicking the ball inside to the post, we got better shots."
"They (Vanderbilt) got the ball inside. It was a combination of that and us losing our focus. We found a way to win. That's the sign of a good team."
"I played all four (power forward) today. I was able to get inside and run the floor. Those are my strengths. It worked out today."
(on Vanderbilt's Ashley Earley) "She's a good player. They do a good job of feeding the post."
VANDERBILT HEAD COACH MELANIE BALCOMB:
"I am proud of how my team kept coming back when down 16 on the road. This is a tough place to play. We just didn't finish the job. But we showed a lot more poise this time."
(on rebounding) "I emphasize that every minute that I can, you have to in this conference. We are playing with one player over 5-10, and that makes it harder."
(on fouls) "It hurt us both ways. We got all the fouls in the first half, and we were all about to foul out. Down the stretch when we needed to foul, we didn't have enough. We wanted to foul anyone but (Shanna) Zolman, but the other players got rid of it so quickly."
(on battling inside with taller player) "It is all about footwork. Every night out I am playing against bigger people. Today I was more aggressive than last time (playing Tennessee)."
(on struggling from three-point range in the second half) "It was probably a thing about footwork, my feet were too close together. But I might have been rushing them, too, I was a little tired."
