Tonight's starters: freshman Meighan Simmons, sophomore Taber Spani, junior Glory Johnson, junior Shekinna Stricklen and redshirt junior Vicki Baugh.
Baugh's start was her first since Dec. 30, 2008, when she scored 12 points and had 15 rebounds at Gonzaga. This is the 11th start of her career.
Tennessee trailed by 13 at halftime, 28-15, tying its largest halftime deficit of the season - 13 at Baylor on Dec. 14. UT's 15 points were its third lowest first half output all-time and the lowest this season. UT's halftime shooting percentage of 20 percent (5-of-25) was also a season-low.
Tennessee's two lowest first-half scoring performances of all-time came at Rutgers (13 points) on Jan. 3, 2009, and versus Virginia (14) at the NCAA Regional Finals in Charlottesville, Va., on March 25, 1996. Tennessee also won both of those games - 55-51 over Rutgers, and 52-46 over Virginia.
Vanderbilt used a 14-2 run to jump out to a 16-7 lead with 11:57 left in the first half. Vanderbilt's Jasmine Lister made a pair of three-pointers during the run.
After Angela Puleo made all three of her free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, Gabby Smith made a pair from the charity strip to give Vanderbilt a 24-13 lead at the 7:15 mark in the first half.
In a 32-second span, freshman guard Lauren Avant scored six straight points for the Lady Vols. She made an And-1 layup at the 8:05 mark in the second frame and swished a three-pointer 32 seconds later to pull UT within a point, 42-41.
Simmons' three-pointer with 5:54 left in the game gave UT a 44-42 advantage - its first lead since being up 5-2 at the 16:01 mark in the first half.
Lyssi Brewer made a layup and then poked the ball away from VU's Jence Rhoads right to Simmons who found Brewer for the fastbreak score to put UT up 55-49 with 2:30 left in the game.
Head Coach Pat Summitt has won 20 of 21 games over Vanderbilt with Melanie Balcomb at the helm of the Commodores.
After scoring 10 points, Glory Johnson needs 16 points to become the 36th member of the Lady Vol 1,000-point club. Johnson has 984 career points.
