Head Coach Pat Summitt
"I cannot tell you how happy I am for our team and how proud I am of their attitude throughout the game. No matter what happened, they kept their composure. They also had great leadership. Everyone that went in contributed. Dominique Redding came up to me today and said `I'm ready to play. Put me in.' And she was and she did. Our seniors worked really hard this year and could not deserve it more. Each player is special in her own way. Tonight they came together and decided this is something they wanted to do. It is more likely to work when they decide it for themselves."
(On Shyra Ely's last game against LSU) "I knew from the beginning Shyra was ready to play. I think she was disappointed she let her offensive game effect other aspects of her game. I think she grew inside."
"I just came in ready to do whatever I could to help my team. I feel comfortable inside. Even though I was not shooting well in this tournament, I knew I could do it today. The posts did a great job."
(On her injury) "It was on an inbounds play. I just went back and nailed Sylvia Fowles' elbow. I did not think it was bleeding until I started going down the floor. On the bench I was continuously trying to watch what we were doing offensively and defensively so when I got back in I would not mess it up."
"What helped tonight was my talk with coach and knowing that she believes and has confidence in me. I think that brought the best out of me. It relieved some stress I may have been feeling. It worked because I played pretty well tonight."
Coach Pokey Chatman
"I think at the end of the first half we were fortunate to be in the game, let alone up. They had a definite rebounding edge. I think the neutralizing factor in that was the execution of our offense in the first half. Our inability to do the same in the last 7-8 minutes of the game kept us from getting to the free throw line and that was the difference in the game."
"It's a loss. We have another game coming up. We're going to break down the film. I'm glad we have some time. Anytime you lose to a program of Tennessee's nature there's a lot you can learn from it."
"It's hard to overcome when you get beat by five on the boards. They had an edge of 12 at the end of the first half and we were able to limit that in the second half. That's been their mantra all year long, getting the second shot. We're pretty good at defending the first shot, but not the second shot, which is really hard to defend."
"I can't explain my feelings. We let something go that should have been ours. That's my whole take on it."
(On picking up her game late) "Our offense started to work. Anytime our offense gets movement it creates shots for me. Early on I think the others were feeding of me. I made some cuts and screens that enabled some of the others to get some easy shots."
"We bounced back last year after the SEC tournament loss. We bounced back last year and look what happened. It's over and we're going to move on."
