- Both teams enter the game on two-game winning streaks after dropping home contests to (then) No. 1/1 Stanford.
- Tennessee fell to the Cardinal, 73-60, on Dec. 22, while South Carolina dropped a tight, 53-49 battle to Stanford on Dec. 19.
