- #12/13 Tennessee (9-3) and 18/15 South Carolina (12-1) will meet for the 49th time, facing off Thursday at 9:05 p.m. Eastern time in a game that will be televised live on SportSouth and streamed by ESPN3 (subject to blackout).
- The contest marks the first game of 2013 and the SEC opener for both schools.
- Tennessee was the SEC runner-up a year ago (27-9/12-4 SEC) and was picked to finish fourth this season by the media and fifth by the coaches.
- South Carolina tied for fourth in the league last season (25-10/10-6) and was predicted to place seventh by the media and sixth by the coaches.
- Both teams enter the game on two-game winning streaks after dropping home contests to (then) No. 1/1 Stanford.
- Tennessee fell to the Cardinal, 73-60, on Dec. 22, while South Carolina dropped a tight, 53-49 battle to Stanford on Dec. 19.
