KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Long known for having the largest fan base in women's hoops, the Tennessee Lady Vols are poised to surpass the five-million mark in home attendance on Thursday night.
No. 8/8 UT (12-2/1-1 SEC) welcomes Ole Miss (9-6/0-1 SEC) to Thompson-Boling Arena for a 7 p.m. contest. Only 3,796 fans must pass through the arena doors on Thursday night to reach the new home attendance plateau.
One lucky fan will become the five-millionth visitor to a Lady Vol game and will be the recipient of some special prizes. The list includes two 2014-15 Lady Vol basketball season tickets, two courtside seats and Ray Mears Room access for Thursday night's game, a basketball autographed by Holly Warlick, a Tennessee prize pack complete with adidas apparel, a celebration package including cake, balloons and a photo with Smokey, and an interview with the media.
Fans may also enter to win several different items and experiences at the UT Athletics Marketing table located on the concourse at Section 127. Fans must be 18 or older to enter. These items include: two courtside seats, behind-the-scenes tour of Thompson-Boling Arena & Pratt Pavilion, a basketball signed by Coach Warlick, two 2014-15 Lady Vol basketball season tickets, two guest coach spots during the 2014-15 season, attendance at a Lady Vol practice, a Lady Vol prize pack, two suite tickets for the Vandy game on February 10th, and attendance at a postgame press conference.
In addition to giving the first 2,000 fans a 2014 Lady Vol Basketball calendar on Thursday night, UT is offering a promotion where the donation of two non-perishable food items at the game earns a complimentary 300-level ticket. All donations will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Lady Vols entered the season 94,088 away (4,905,912) from hitting the five-million mark. They have averaged a nation-leading 11,286 through eight home dates and are on track to pace the country in home attendance for the 11th-straight campaign and the 19th time in the past 23 years.
