Lady Vol Signees Named McDonald's All-Americans

OAK BROOK, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2011) - McDonald's® unveiled the official rosters for the 10th annual McDonald's Girls High School All-America Game during its annual selection show today on ESPNU.

University of Tennessee Lady Vol basketball signees Cierra Burdick and Ariel Massengale were among the players selected for the East Team. The Games will be played on March 30 at the famed United Center in Chicago, Ill.

"Since 1978, the McDonald's All American Game has showcased the very best high school student-athletes and this year is no exception as both teams are loaded with talent," said Douglas Freeland, Director of the McDonald's All American Games, McDonald's USA. "On March 30th, fans at Chicago's United Center will witness the start of the next era of basketball greatness."

The 2011 McDonald's All American Girls Team boasts exceptional East and West rosters. In addition to including Massengale (Bolingbrook High School -Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Burdick (Butler High School - Matthews N.C.), the cream of the crop of boys and girls high school talent will be on display.

The Lady Vols have been fortunate to have 18 previous signees make the McDonald's All American roster including: Nicky Anosike, 2004; Vicki Baugh, 2007; Angie Bjorklund, 2007; Alyssia Brewer, 2008; Kelley Cain, 2007; Tye'sha Fluker, 2002; Alex Fuller, 2004; Amber Gray, 2008; Alexis Hornbuckle, (2004 MVP); Glory Johnson, 2008; Alicia Manning, 2008; Candace Parker, 2004 (Slam Dunk Champion-M/W); Dominique Redding, 2003; Meighan Simmons, 2010; Shekinna Stricklen, 2008; Taber Spani, 2009; Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood, 2004, and Shanna Zolman (2002 MVP)

The Girls Game begins at 6:30 p.m. CT March 30, and will broadcast live on ESPNU. Tickets to the Games are available via Ticketmaster and charge-by-phone at 1-866-909-GAME.

Proceeds from the 2011 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Games will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. The chapter will use those funds to help build the world's largest Ronald McDonald House. Millions of dollars have been raised for the charity since the first Game was played in 1978. Every athlete who participates in the McDonald's All American Games will visit the host city's local Ronald McDonald House to experience first-hand how the Games impact the local community.
