University of Tennessee sophomore basketball player Shekinna Stricklen has been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the No. 4/4-ranked Lady Vols to a 3-0 week and clinching the 15th SEC regular season title in school history.
For the week, Stricklen shot 63 percent from the field, and averaged a team-best 15.0 ppg, to go with 6.7 rpg and 3.3 apg.
Tennessee opened the week in a Big Monday match-up with 20th-ranked LSU and Stricklen finished with 10 points, four assists and three rebounds. In the Feb. 25 contest with No. 16/14 Kentucky, she tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Morrilton, Ark., native played great defense in both games and helped UT to claim the regular season league crown.
In the regular-season finale, Stricklen tallied her sixth career double double and fourth of the season with team-bests of 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Vols will travel to Duluth, Ga., for the 2010 SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Tennessee will play the winner of Ole Miss and South Carolina in a noon contest on Friday, March 5, at the Gwinnett Center with Fox Sport South broadcasting the game.
