KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After a career-best performance in Saturday's semifinal game, Tennessee senior Taber Spani has been named to the SEC All-Tournament Team.
Spani, a 6-1 guard/forward from Lee's Summit, Mo., joins A'dia Mathies (UK), Kelsey Bone (TAMU), Kristi Bellock (TAMU) and Courtney Walker (TAMU) on the squad named after Sunday's championship game.
To pick up the first SEC accolade of her career, Spani averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 37.5 minutes of action in two tourney contests. She connected on 65.2% (15-23) of her field goal tries, 54.5% (6-11) of her three-point shots and 83.3% (10-12) of her free throw attempts for UT.
In Saturday's setback against Texas A&M, Spani knocked home a career-high 33 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Vols, eclipsing the 1,000-point plateau for her career (1,006). Her 33 points tied a single-game SEC high this season with three players, including teammate Meighan Simmons.
Playing all 40 minutes, Spani hit 11 of 13 shots from the field, including a career-best five threes in six attempts, and six of six free throw attempts.
Spani tallied 13 points and seven boards on Friday in the win over Florida. She now is averaging 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the 2012-13 campaign.
