KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Lady Vol basketball juniors Glory Johnson and Shekinna Stricklen each grabbed another honor to add to their 2010-11 awards haul on Wednesday, when the pair was announced as members of the WBCA All-Region 3 Team.
Johnson and Stricklen join LSU junior LaSondra Barrett, Kentucky senior Victoria Dunlap, Alabama senior Tierney Jenkins, Georgia senior Porsha Phillips, and Vanderbilt senior Jence Rhoads on the team.
All-Region status makes a player eligible for the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. A committee will trim the list of candidates from the eight regions down to 40 finalists on Monday. The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team features 10 members.
Stricklen was named the SEC Player of the Year by the league's coaches this season and captured All-SEC First Team status from both the coaches and the Associated Press. The Morrilton, Ark., native was named the SEC Tournament MVP on March 6 after leading UT to its 15th SEC Tournament title. She is averaging 12.6 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while playing the point, on the wing and in the post in 2010-11.
Johnson also earned All-SEC First Team honors from the coaches and the AP, as well as SEC All-Tournament accolades. A Knoxville, Tenn., native, she is averaging 12.0 ppg and 9.7 rpg this season.
Stricklen and Johnson will lead the No. 1-seeded Lady Vols, as they open the 2011 NCAA Tournament against No. 16-seed Stetson on Saturday at 11:05 a.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.
