June 27, 2013

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Lady Vol basketball players Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever and Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks have been nominated for the 2013 ESPY Awards in the "Best WNBA Player" category. The full list of nominees for The 2013 ESPYS presented by Capital One has been revealed and is now open for fan voting.

Catchings, who was named 2012 Finals MVP, led the Fever to a 3-1 victory in the best-of-five series against the Minnesota Lynx for the 2012 WNBA title, and the first for Indiana. Catchings was the only WNBA player in 2012 to start every regular season and playoff game, along with every game in the Olympics.

Parker, who started all 33 games in the 2012 season for the Sparks, led the league in blocks and defensive rebounds and tied for first in double-doubles among league leaders. Parker was named Western Conference Player of the Month three times and WNBA Player of the Week five times. Parker was also a member of USA's gold medal Women's Basketball team at the 2012 London Olympics.

Both Catchings and Parker were selected to the 2012 All-WNBA First Team.
