Jenny Moshak, University of Tennessee Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, announced this afternoon that Lady Vol basketball rising sophomore Angie Bjorklund had undergone successful knee surgery at the UT Medical Center.
?????Dr. Greg Mathien, UT team orthopaedist, performed surgery on Angie???s right knee this afternoon,??? said Moshak.?? ???The surgery addressed a torn medial meniscus of her knee.???
According to Moshak, Bjorklund???s surgery went well and she will begin rehabilitation of the knee immediately.?? She is expected to be fully recovered in four-to-six weeks.??
Bjorklund, a 6-0 forward-guard from Spokane Valley, Wash., indicated that her injury came as a result of ???tweaking her knee??? in the last two weeks.
During her freshman season, Bjorklund played in all 38 games and started 30 while helping the Lady Vols to a 36-2 record and the program???s eighth NCAA title.?? She averaged 8.4 ppg and 3.2 rpg in 23.8 minutes per contest.?? A long range gunner, she tied the school record for three-pointers made in a single game with seven on three occasions.?? The SEC Rookie of the Year, Bjorklund registered 13 games in double-digits scoring including a season high 29 point effort versus Arkansas.
