KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- -- Lady Vol hoops fans looking for a Thanksgiving getaway now have their opportunity. Holly Warlick's squad will participate in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas on Nov. 28 and 29.
Basketball Travelers Inc. is proud to present the Junkanoo Jam at Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Spend Thanksgiving weekend enjoying the beach, water and average daytime temperatures in the high 70s. You also get to watch a very talented Tennessee team, which returns 2013 SEC Co-Player of the Year Meighan Simmons and SEC Freshman of the Year Bashaara Graves, play a couple of basketball games.
The defending SEC champion Lady Vols are tentatively slated to arrive in Freeport on Nov. 26 and have single games scheduled on Nov. 28 and 29 before departing on Dec. 1. Games take place at St. George's High School Gymnasium in Freeport.
The Lady Vols are scheduled to face Virginia in a Thanksgiving Day affair at 2 p.m. ET on Nov. 28. Kansas State and SMU will battle in the other Lucaya Bracket game at 4:15 p.m. ET, with the winners of those contests meeting for the championship at 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 29. The losing teams play for third place earlier that day at 4:45 p.m.
Tennessee will be making its first trip outside the country since the 2010-11 squad played three games at the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam on Nov. 25-27, 2010. Interestingly enough, the Tennessee men's team also will be in the Bahamas over Thanksgiving. Cuonzo Martin's Vols will be playing at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island from Nov. 26 to Dec. 1 in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
The Radisson Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort will be the tournament host hotel for the Junkanoo Jam. The resort features 7.5 acres of white sand beach, three large pools, a casino, a fitness center, two golf courses, a full-size outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, 14 restaurants and an attached shopping village with over 70 stores, restaurants and a straw market. Water sports include jet skis, sailboats, kayaks and parasailing.
Basketball Travelers is offering fan packages for the tournament. The ground package includes 4-star hotel accommodations for four nights at the Radisson Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort, ticket to the game, bus transfers to/from games and airport, ticket to tournament banquet, group snorkeling trip and free green fees for golf.
Fans are responsible for airfare, trip cancellation insurance, tips and other incidentals, meals and transportation to and from the departure city.
