PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Family, friends and former teammates said goodbye to Lady Vol great Mary Ostrowski on Saturday, as a celebration of her life was held in her hometown of Parkerburg, W.Va.
The Lady Vol and West Virginia High School Hall of Fame member, who passed away on July 19 at the age of 51, was saluted during a memorial celebration at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Parkersburg.
Ostrowski, who starred at Parkersburg Catholic High School before becoming the first No. 1 rated recruit to sign and play for Pat Summitt at Tennessee from 1980-84, had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in 2007.
Below is a video with highlights from her UT career, which saw her post numbers that still rank her fifth in rebounds (994) and 10th in points (1,729) in Lady Vol history. Her high school and college fans, who called Ostrowski "Mary O" "Big O" or "Mo," still remember her trademark left-handed hook shot.
