Golden Summer For Lady Vols

Aug 30, 2013

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Bashaara Graves and Ariel Massengale are veterans when it comes to playing for USA Basketball. The Lady Vol standouts each earned their fourth international gold medals over the summer, aiding American squads to first-place finishes at competitions overseas.

Graves helped the USA team win gold in the FIBA U19 World Championships in Panevė×ys, Lithuania, as the red, white and blue blasted France, 61-28, for the title on July 28. A 6-foot-2 power forward from Clarksville, Tenn. (Clarksville H.S.), Graves previously won gold with USA Basketball at the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women, the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women and the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women.

Massengale, meanwhile, was on the USA World University Games squad that brought home gold when the Americans beat host country Russia in the city of Kazan, 90-71 on July 16. Massengale, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Bolingbrook, Ill. (Bolingbrook H.S.) previously struck gold at the FIBA U19 World Championships in 2011, the FIBA U17 World Championships in 2010 and the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in 2009.
