NEW YORK Fresh from winning their fifth-consecutive Olympic gold medal in basketball, the women of Team USA will be honored at this year's WNBA Inspiring Women national luncheon.
Reigning WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings will represent Team USA in accepting a special recognition for the squad's success this past summer.
Former Lady Vol standouts Catchings and Candace Parker helped Team USA become the first squad in any Olympic sport to claim five straight gold medals. Overall, it's Team USA's seventh gold medal and upped its 20-year-old Olympic winning streak to 41 games. At least one Lady Vol has been part of each one of the seven American gold-medal efforts. Catchings is the first of UT's female Olympians to win three gold medals.
Also receiving recognition at the luncheon, which recognizes the USA's success in all sports during the London Games, will be Betsey Armstrong (Water Polo), Danielle Scott-Arruda (Indoor Volleyball), Kayla Harrison (Judo), Taylor Ritzel (Rowing) and Lauren Tamayo (Cycling).
The WNBA Inspiring Women luncheon will be held Sept. 10 at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The luncheon celebrates individuals who inspire others through their personal and professional leadership on the court, in the boardroom and in the community.
