      Jan Dowling
Position:
Assistant Coach

Lady Vol women's golf head coach Judi Pavon has named Jan Dowling as the new assistant coach.

The 2002 graduate of Kent State, who hails from Bradford, Ontario, comes to Tennessee after serving as the head coach of the Florida Gators for the past three years.

"I am thrilled to have Jan join the golf staff," coach Pavon said. "She has a tremendous coaching and golf background and will be a great asset to our program. I think she will have some very valuable opinions and information to share with me and all of our players."

Prior to joining Florida, Dowling spent one season as an assistant at Duke and two seasons as an assistant at Kent State. She also played as a professional for almost three years before entering the collegiate coaching ranks.

"The University of Tennessee is the entire package," Dowling said. "The opportunity to learn and work for Judi Pavon, who has been a leader in women's college golf for many years, to compete within the SEC, and to live in such a great community is something I did not want to pass up. The team has been a nationally prominent program for many years, and Judi has put together another talented group of young women that I am very excited to work with. I'm looking forward to assisting Judi in taking the team to the next level, and competing for SEC and National Championships."

During her time in Gainesville, Dowling led the Gators to back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances, tying for 10th in 2011 and finishing 12th this past season. UF progressed in SEC play each year under Dowling, taking fourth in the 2012 event.

At Duke, Dowling helped guide the 2008-09 Duke women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Championships. She coached the Blue Devils to a team win at the NGCA National Match Play Championship in the absence of head coach Dan Brooks.

Following her stint as a touring professional, she returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach. She helped guide the Golden Flashes to their 10th consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship with back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008. She also coached individuals Kira Meixner (2007) and Kirby Dreher (2008) to MAC Individual Medalist honors.

Dowling collected numerous accolades during her college career, including MAC Freshman of the Year (1998) and MAC Conference Player of the Year (1999). She also led the Kent State Golden Flashes to a conference championship four years in a row.
