TUCSON, Ariz.- The No. 11 Lady Vol golf squad claimed third place as the Arizona Wildcat Invitational concluded Tuesday. Preseason All-American Violeta Retamoza led the Orange and White, finishing in a tie for third place with a three-round total of 212. Her efforts helped Tennessee picked up its fifth top-10 showing in as many tries on the year. The finish gets the Orange and White off to a great start, as they came in ahead of No. 9 Arizona State, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Stanford.
The Mexico native's final marker tied as the fourth lowest in program history. Freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.) continued to be sensational during her initial year on Rocky Top, earning her third-career top-10 showing by tying for eighth. The Kentucky native carded a two-day total of 217, which ties as the fourth-lowest tally in Big Orange annals and 17th best overall.
Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) fired a final round of 70, which propelled her to a total of 222 to tie for 19th place. Additionally, it equaled the senior's best-ever third round tally. Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) finished with a score of 79 and tournament total of 227 to end up tied for 31st.
Meanwhile, Teesha Ash (Chattanooga, Tenn.), competing in her second event on the year, turned in a final round 81 which pushed her score to 236. She finished tied for 53rd.
Christie Reed (Coral Spring, Fla.) concluded the event with a score of 252 to earn a tie for 71st. The freshman was playing as an individual.
Next up for UT is the UNLV Invitational from March 14-16.
