Head Coach Judi Pavon's golf squad closed out the 2004 Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the Arizona National Golf Club at Sabino Springs in Tucson, Ariz., by finishing in eighth place. The orange-clad linksters put together a 921 (324-296-301) to conclude the tournament. Southeastern Conference rival Vanderbilt claimed the event title with a three-round 869 (290-289-290) to knock off first-day leader Ohio State (285-299-289=873) by four strokes. Commodore May Wood won the medal with a four-under 209 (70-70-69) that was three shots better than runner-up Sophia Sheridan of California (69-71-72=212).
As for the Big Orange, sophomore Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) fired a 226 (78-76-72) to end up in a tie for 20th place, while team captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) carded a 229 (81-72-76) to tie for 31st place. Senior Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) tied for 48th place with a 236 (84-73-79), while sophomore Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) turned in a 51st-place 237 (87-75-75). Rounding out the UT effort in the final round, junior Teesha Ash (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tied for 59th place with a 242 (81-83-78). Playing as an individual, freshman Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.) tied for 34th place with a 230 (81-76-73).

Invitational over March 7-9.
