TUCSON, Ariz. - With just a few minutes of light left, the 15 teams competing in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tuscon were able to complete the second round of the tournament this evening. Round three is slated to begin at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday. The Lady Vols are tied for 10th with UNLV with a 611 stroke total in their first tournament of the spring season.
"We had some good practice leading into this tournament, but the players were quite nervous today," Lady Vol Head Golf Coach Judi Pavon said.
Freshman Angela Oh is leading the Lady Vols after shooting an even-par 71 in round one and three-over 74 in round two. Her 145 total puts her in 10th place. The Maple Shade, N.J., product registered six birdies on the day.
Sophomore Nicole Smith sits in 23rd with an eight-over 150 through 36 holes. One of the highlights of her day came in the second round when she played seven straight holes without a mistake, and which included two birdies.
Junior Marci Turner shot from 46th in round one to 38th after round two with a five-over 76. The Tompkinsville, Ky., native got off to a good second round by carding birdies on two of her first three holes.
"Angela played very solid golf," Pavon said. "Both Marci and Nicole hit a lot of good shots today, but they were not able to score the way they wanted to. Ginny [Brown] played much better in the second round."
In the second go-around, freshman Ginny Brown had the most success on the course's four par-five holes. She birdied No. 2 and made par on the other three. The Austin, Texas, product took eight strokes off her round one score of 86 to bring her 36-hole total to 164 and 69th place.
Freshman Diana Cantú got the worst over with early as she started the second round on the par-five No.11 hole. Sitting in 75th place, the Mexican National Team member improved on her 85 total in the opening round with an 82 readout in round two.
Individual Rachel Ingram had a much more solid second trip around the course as she carded an 84 to bring her total to 175. This is the first competition for the sophomore in a Lady Vol uniform.

OH LEADS LADY VOLS THROUGH FIRST ROUND OF ARIZONA WILDCAT INVITATIONAL
TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman Angela Oh set the pace for the Lady Vols in the first round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tuscon this morning. The Maple Shade, N.J., product is currently in a tie for second with an even-par 71 after 18 holes. The team's 307 strokes put it in 13th place. Round two is currently underway.
Sophomore Nicole Smith carded five birdies in her first round to bring her total to a three-over 74. She is tied for 16th place. Junior Marci Turner shot an opening-round 77 for 46th, while freshmen Diana Cantú (85) and Ginny Brown (86) are in 75th and 77th, respectively. Playing as an individual, Rachel Ingram sits in 82nd with a score of 91.
The competition at the Arizona Wildcat is some of the toughest the Lady Vols have seen this season. Seven of the 15 teams competing are ranked in the top 10 by Golfweek.
