Head Coach Judi Pavon's golf squad concluded the 2004 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the Florida University Club in Gainesville, Fla., by winding up in a sixth-place tie with Oklahoma State after posting a 922 (301-319-302). Top-ranked Duke scorched the competition with a 33-stroke victory by firing an 878 (292-296-290), while Blue Devil Brittany Lang out-dueled a pair of other Duke golfers to claim the individual prize with a 216 (72-73-71).
As for the Big Orange, sophomore Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) finished in a sixth-place tie with a 223 (72-76-75), while senior Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) took 15th place with a 230 (77-79-74). Classmate Mary Jan Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) registered a 235 (76-82-77) to tie for 29th place, while sophomore Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden), playing as an individual, recorded a 239 (77-79-83) to finish in a 49th-place tie. Team captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tied for 55th place with a 240 (76-86-78), while freshman Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.) closed out the UT effort with a 244 (86-82-76) to tie for 66th place.
Next up, the Lady Vols remain in SEC country as they travel to Athens, Ga., for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Championship hosted at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
