March 9, 2013

Round 2 Results | Round 3 Tee Times

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-- The Tennessee women's golf team shot a 301 (+17) on Saturday in the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club as the Lady Vols head into the final round in seventh.

UT has a two-day total of 598 (+30), carding eight birdies in the second round.

"We were hanging in there pretty well most of the round, but didn't have the finish we hoped for," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We are still in position to have a good tournament with a solid round tomorrow."

Senior Erica Popson fired an even-par 71 to pace the Lady Vols, as she wrapped up the day in a tie for seventh. Junior Chessey Thomas followed in a tie for 26 shot 5-over 76. Sophomore Daeun Song is in a tie for 35th after carding 7-over 78 in the second round, and sophomore AJ Newell rounds out UT's scores as she was 5-over 76 for a two-day total of 152 (+10) to sit in a tie for 40th.

Senior Sara Monberg's 12-over 83 was Tennessee's drop score. Sophomore Mason Chen, who is competing as an individual, shot 14-over par 85 as she is in 74th.

"There are a lot of tough holes on this course so we need to score a little better on the par 5s and some of the earlier par 4s," Pavon said.

No. 11 Vanderbilt posted a 2-under 282 on Saturday to move atop the team leaderboard at 10-over 578. Rounding out the top-10 teams are LSU at 581 (+13), No. 4 Alabama at 585 (+17), No. 8 Arkansas at 591 (+23), No. 3 North Carolina and No. 17 Arizona State at 594 (+26), UCF at 600 (+32), No. 19 Virginia at 604 (+36) and Georgia at 607 (+39). TCU (616), South Carolina (619), Furman(619), Wake Forest (624) and Auburn (631) complete the team standings in the 11 through 15 slots, respectively.
