GAINESVILLE, Fla.

The No. 11 University of Tennessee Lady Vol golf squad slipped to second place after leading in the first round of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. UT carded a 592 (289-303) over the two rounds to trail the home-standing Florida Lady Gators (292-294=587) by five strokes. Individually, Michigan State's Dayna Burleigh and Florida State's Kristin Tamulis lead the field with a pair of 144s, while freshman Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) is just one shot shy of joining the pair after firing a third-place 145 (73-72).

Team captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) is well within reach of extending her current six-tournament stretch of top-15 finishes as the Canadian carded a sixth-place tying 147 (72-75), while Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) fell from a first-round pole position to a 15th-place tying 149 (69-80). Junior Mary Jan Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) posted a two-round 151 (75-76) to tie for 22nd-place, while freshman Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) carded a 68th-place tying 161 (79-82). UT concludes the 2003 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational Tuesday with a final-round shotgun start at 8 a.m.
