HENDERSON, Nev.-- The No. 9 Lady Vol golf squad is in sixth place after round one of the UNLV Invitational concluded Monday afternoon.
Tennessee finished the day with a team total of 318. UT and the other squads had to battle extremely windy conditions throughout the round.
Leading the way for the Big Orange at the challenging par-72 Black Mountain Country Club was freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.), who finished with a total of 77 and sits tied for 10th. Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) is two shots in back of the Kentucky native with a 17th-place tying 79. Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) is tied for 22nd with a tally of 80 while Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) and Sarah Bonner-Shanks (Kingsport, Tenn.) carded totals of 82 and 83, respectively.
Additionally, Christie Reed (Coral Spring, Fla.) turned in a total of 84 and is in a stalemate for 59th. The freshman is playing as an individual.
Head Coach Judi Pavon's squad is just six shots in back of No. 19 Arizona and UNLV who are tied for second place. No. 25 Michigan owns fourth with a total of 316 while No. 5 Pepperdine is currently in fifth as they finished with a team score of 317. No. 23 Southern California leads the event at a blistering clip of 306.
The Lady Vols will take the course at 8:30 a.m. PST for round two of the event on Tuesday.
