HENDERSON, Nev. -- The No. 9 Lady Vol golf squad concluded round two of the UNLV Invitational on Tuesday afternoon tied for fifth with No. 25 Michigan. Tennessee posted a score of 306 and has a two-day total of 624. Leading the way for the Big Orange were Violeta Retamoza and Jessica Shepley, who fired rounds of 74 and 75, respectively.
The senior captain found herself tied for ninth at the end of day two while the Aguascalientes, Mexico, native had surged up to a tie for 17th. Freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.) shot a 78 on the day and is even with Retamoza for the event with a score of 155. Sarah Bonner-Shanks (Kingsport, Tenn.) rebounded from a first-round total of 83 to post a 79. The senior is tied for 44th place while Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) finished play on Tuesday tied for 62nd, as she carded an 84. .
Additionally, Christie Reed (Coral Spring, Fla.) took six strokes off her score from round one, turning in a 78 to bring her scorecard to a total of 162. The freshman is playing as an individual.
Head Coach Judi Pavon's squad is right on pace for its fifth top-five finish in six tries on the year and could still move up. The orange-clad linksters sit just three shots behind UNLV for fourth place and five in back of third place and No. 5 Pepperdine.
The Lady Vols conclude play at the UNLV Invitational on Wednesday with the final round.
