ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 12 Lady Volunteer golf team is in 10th place after round one of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic concluded on Friday afternoon. Junior Golda Johansson fired a three-over-par 75 to lead the Big Orange. Her efforts helped Tennessee finish the day with a team total of 311.
The Lund, Sweden, native sits in a tie for 13th place and appears to be in good shape for the final two rounds. Entering the event, Johansson had a stroke average of 77.17 during the first round, with lower marks of 75.17 and 75.33 for the second and third round, respectively.
Junior Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) and freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.) both carded rounds of 78 to sit deadlocked at 39th. Senior Sarah Bonner-Shanks (Kingsport, Tenn.) is in a stalemate for 55th as she finished the day with a final tally of 80, while captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) is tied for 62nd. The senior shot an 81 on the day. Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.), playing as an individual, is tied for 92nd with a score of 89.
Round two of the event is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with a shotgun start.
