ATHENS, Ga.
Head Coach Judi Pavon's golf squad all shot within two strokes of par with the program's second-best third-round total of 287 as the fivesome scorched the University of Georgia Golf Course in the final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate in Athens, Ga. Overall, Tennessee finished in sixth place with an 892 (304-310-287). The final round outburst was also the team's best round since the final round of the 2002 Auburn Tiger Derby, when the Big Orange fired a 285.
The hosting Georgia Bulldogs out-did UT in the final round with a 285 to overtake Ohio State and claim the team title with an 865 (292-288-285). Duke's Brittany Lang out-dueled Ohio State's Lindsay Knowlton on the final day to seize the individual title with a 207 (66-73-68).
As for the orange-clads, sophomore Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico)
fired her 10th-career under-par round with a two-under 70 to tie for 14th
place with a 221 (75-76-70). Fellow classmate Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden)
carded a one-over 73 for a tally of 224 (76-75-73) to tie for 28th place,
while junior Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tied for 31st place
with a 225 (75-77-73) that included a one-over 73. Senior Mary Jan Fernandez
(Henderson, Nev.) nailed a one-under 71 en route to a 40th-place-tying 227
(83-73-71), while junior Teesha Ash (Chattanooga, Tenn.), playing as an
individual, wound up in a 46th-place tie with a 229 (76-75-78). Freshman
Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.) rounded out the Tennessee performance with
a 230 (78-78-74) to tie for 51st place.

Next up, the Lady Vols head for Greensboro, N.C., for the Bryan National Collegiate over April 2-4.
