GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Nathalie Mansson fired an even-par 72 to lead the Tennessee women's golf team on the second day of the 2009 Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday.

Still battling windy conditions, the Lady Vols rose from tied for 12th to ninth after shooting a 303 (+15) - 11 strokes better than their first round score - on the 6,500-yard Bryan Park Champions Course. The Big Orange has a total score of 314-303=617 (+41) through 36-holes at the tournament.

"Everybody played well today," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon said. "We just didn't make the critical putts. It was windy again so it's tough to hit it close. The scores are pretty bunched up, so we know if we can finish our round tomorrow we can easily move up. Both days we've lost a lot of shots on the last few holes, but hopefully we can improve that tomorrow."

Tennessee is only six shots from fifth-place East Carolina (611). LSU maintained its team lead with a second round score of 302. With a total score of 592 (+16), the Tigers hold a nine shot cushion over North Carolina (601). Wake Forest (602) and Virginia (604) are also within striking distance.

Mansson bounced back from carding an 80 on Friday - her worst round of the season - to record her team-best seventh par or better round of her rookie campaign.

The Stockholm, Sweden, native fired three birdies and is tied for 13th heading into the final round with a total score of 80-72=152 (+8).

Junior Diana Cantú also bounced back from her first round score of 83 to card a 76 on Saturday. Her total score of 83-76=159 (+15) has her tied for 67th.

Junior Ginny Brown carded her second straight 77 and is tied for 28th with a 154 (+10) total. She led the team with six birdies during the second round.

Senior Nicole Smith fired a 78 and is tied for 51st with a total score of 79-78=157 (+13).

Sophomore Lauren Spurlock is just behind Smith in a tie for 56th after recording an 80 on Saturday to give her a 158 (+14) total.

Sophomore Rebecca Watson, playing as an individual, improved by eight strokes with an 80. She is tied for 88th with a total score of 88-80=168 (+24).

Wake Forest's Nannette Hill shot a 4-under 68 to take a two-shot lead on the individual leaderboard with a total score of 143 (1-under). She and Michigan State's Laura Kueny (71) were the only two players to break par during the second day of play.

The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
