BRYAN, Texas. - The 12th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vol golf team opened the 2010-11 season by firing a 307 (+18) on day one of the NCAA Fall Preview presented by Calloway.

The Lady Vols are in 16th of 18 teams competing at the invitation-only tournament held at the par-72 Traditions Club course. Nine of the top 10 teams in the NGCA/Golf World Coaches' poll are at the tournament.

UT will try to move up the leaderboard beginning Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CT from the 10th tee. The Big Orange will start the second round in group with No. 11 Pepperdine and No. 14 Stanford.

"We were pretty shaky for our first round and needed someone to shoot low," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon said. "We will go out tomorrow and play better. The course is set up to yield some low scores so we will be prepared to play better tomorrow."

Sophomore Sara Monberg kicked off her second season for the Orange and White by firing a 3-over 75 to lead Tennessee with a tied-for-40th placement.

Playing for the first time in the Lady Vol lineup, sophomore Leigh Henderson, a Knoxville, Tenn. native, and freshman Chessey Thomas each carded 4-over 76s. Thomas was even-par through her first nine, but made four bogeys before finishing her round in a tied for 51st with Henderson.

Senior Lauren Spurlock and junior All-American Nathalie Mansson both tallied 7-over 79s and are tied for 80th. Spurlock led the Orange and White with three birdies on the day.

Playing in Tennessee's group, No. 11 Georgia scorched the course that will also be the site of the 2011 NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs fired a course record 11-under 277 total and hold a commanding seven-shot lead over second-place Vanderbilt (284). Fellow SEC squads, Alabama (286) and LSU (287) will take places third and fourth, respectively, into day two.

The Crimson Tide's Brooke Pancake carded a course-record-tying 7-under 65 to take a two-stroke lead in the individual medalist race with 36 holes remaining.
