BRYAN, Texas. - Nathalie Mansson and Sara Monberg each carded 3-over 75s to lead the 12th-ranked Tennessee women's golf team during the final round of competition on Wednesday at the NCAA Fall Preview presented by Calloway.
The Lady Vols finished 18th in an ultra-competitive field that featured nine of the preseason top 10 teams in the country at the invitation-only event held at the Traditions Club - the site of the 2011 NCAA Championships.
The Big Orange totaled 306-298-308=912 (+48) over three days at the Texas A&M-hosted tournament.
Alabama (15-under 849) edged LSU (14-under 850) by one stroke to take the team title, while the Tigers' Megan McChrystal rode a final round 65 to a two-stroke medalist victory with a 10-under 206 total.
Mansson, a junior, was 1-under at the turn during the final round but closed with a bogey and a double bogey over her final three holes. The All-American from Stockholm, Sweden, led UT by tying for 42nd with a 79-69-75=223 (+7) tally.
Monberg, a sophomore, was also 1-under at the turn, but couldn't maintain her pace. She finished one stroke behind Mansson (224) and tied for 46th.
Sophomore Leigh Henderson tied for 76th with a 231 (+15) total in her first tournament in UT's lineup, while freshman Chessey Thomas placed 81st after carding a 235 (+19) in her collegiate debut. Thomas led the Lady Vols with eight birdies for the tournament.
Senior Lauren Spurlock rounded out the Orange and White scores with a 240 (+24) mark.
Tennessee returns to action from Sept. 26-28 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo.
