The No. 12/15-ranked (Golf World/Golfweek) Lady Volunteers are proving that they belong with the best golf programs in the nation, as they continue to play solid at the NCAA Fall Preview. The Big Orange fired a 296 for the second-straight day and sits in 10th place at the prestigious event, which features the top programs across the nation. Junior preseason All-American Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) fired a two-under par 69 to lead UT, sitting in a seventh-place tie with four others.
"Violeta had a great day, which really helped the team," Lady Vol Head Coach Judi Pavon said. "We are playing well on the front nine and just need to finish with more consistency on the back nine. We can play a good round tomorrow and move up to finish in the top-five or six."
For the second-straight day, junior Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) provided solid play for the Lady Vols, shooting a 74 on the day. The native of Sweden's two-day total of 147 ties her second-best total after 36 holes. Freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.) carded a 76 for the round and sits in a tie for 30th place with a total 148. Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) shot a 77 in today's action while freshman Christie Reed (Coral Spring, Fla.) carded an 84.
Round three of the event is slated to begin at 9 a.m. PDT on Wednesday. However, both the first and second rounds were delayed until the afternoon due to frost.
