The No. 12/15-ranked Lady Volunteers (Golf World/Golfweek) finished in 11th place at the prestigious NCAA Fall Preview which concluded on Wednesday. Leading the way for the Big Orange for the second-straight event was preseason All-American Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico), who earned a 14th-place finish on the heels of a three-day total of 217.
Tennessee finished the preview with a score of 891, just one stroke back of 10th-place Texas The 15th-ranked Lady Vols finished ahead of 10 other squads, including No. 4 Southern California, No. 9 Stanford, and No. 12 Texas A&M.
On the final day, Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) was the top scorer for the Big Orange with a two-over-par 73. For the event, Johansson finished with a score of 220, the second-best score of her career. Freshman Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.) continues to impress, as in just her second tournament of her collegiate career, the Kentucky native carded a thee-day total of 223. The score ties as the 11th-best ever by a freshman in Lady Vol history. Captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) finished the preview with a score of 233. Christie Reed (Coral Spring, Fla) compiled a score of 245 in her initial collegiate competition.
The Lady Vols now have two weeks off, before returning to action Oct. 8-10. UT will play host to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, which will be held at Cherokee Country Club.
