NASHVILLE, Tenn.

The 19th/21st ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol golf team continued its recent successful play by firing a third-place two-round 605 (298-307) in the first day of competition at the Mason Rudolph Championships in Nashville. The orange-clad linksters trail first-place No. 10/3 Arizona's 583 (296-287) and second-place No. 6/9 Vanderbilt's 587 (302-285). Rounding out the top five are No. 9/12 Ohio State with 606 (303-303) and Furman with 610 (309-301).

Team captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario) fired a two-round 4-over 148 (72-76) to tie for seventh place, while freshman Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) carded a 14th-place 7-over 151 (75-76). Freshman Violeta Retamoza (Aquascalientes, Mexico) and junior Mary Jan Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) recorded 154s to move into a 30th-place tie. Also, junior Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) carded a 155 (78-77) to tie for 35th, while Ryan Kirk (Hixson, Tenn.) registered a 164 (84-80) to place tied for 65th as an individual.

The Lady Vol golf squad concludes the Mason Rudolph Tuesday, Sept. 24 with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
