DURHAM, N.C. -- Senior Diana Cantú matched her career-best by firing a 3-under 69 on Saturday, but the Lady Vol women's golf team dropped to tied for seventh during second round action at the Tar Heel Invitational.

The Monterrey, Mexico, native carded five birdies and was 2-under at the turn at the par-72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. She was 1-under on the back nine and finished the round with only two bogeys.

"Diana had a great round today," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon said. "She made some long birdie putts and did a good job of managing the course."

For Cantú, who is tied for sixth with a 74-69=143 (-1) total, it was the second 3-under-par round of her career. Coincidently, her other 69 came during the second round of the 2007 Tar Heel Invitational.

While Cantú was phenomenal, the rest of the Lady Vols struggled during the second round of play, as UT carded a 9-over 297 team score to drop to tied for seventh-place with a two-day total of 588 (+12).

"It was a struggle for the rest of the team," Pavon said. "We didn't look confident today and let some shots get away from us. We'll work on some things this afternoon and be ready for a better day tomorrow."

The Lady Vols will tee off from hole seven for Sunday's final round in a group with Duke and Louisville.

Golfstat No. 4 Michigan State increased its lead to 11 strokes after firing a 5-under-par 283 on Saturday. The Spartans have a 568 (-8) total. No. 10 Alabama is in second with a 579 (+3) total, while No. 2 Auburn is third at 582 (+6). Vanderbilt (584), No. 12 Wake Forest (584) and Virginia (584) rounded out the top six, while Duke (588) is tied with the 22nd-ranked Lady Vols for seventh.

Senior Ginny Brown carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 18th with a 72-74=146 (+2) total.

After carding a 1-under 71 on Friday, freshman Erica Popson tallied a 6-over 78. She is tied for 41st with a 71-78=149 (+5) total.

Sophomore Nathalie Mansson followed a first round 74 with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 49th. She has a 150 (+6) total.

Rounding out UT's lineups, freshman Sara Monberg carded her second straight 79 and is tied for 86th with a 158 (+14) total.

Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau will head into Sunday's final round with the individual lead after totaling 70-68=138 (-6) over the first two days.
