SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Lady Vol golf team wrapped up round two at the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, shooting 20-over par 308 to sit in 12th place. Tennessee is 24-over for the tournament with the final round beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET Tuesday with a shotgun start.
"Today was not a very good day for us," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We got off to a very poor start and just couldn't dig ourselves out of that hole. We had a good practice after our round and will be ready to play better tomorrow to finish of the fall."
Senior Erica Popson was the low scorer for the Lady Vols, shooting 2-over par 74, while recording a pair of birdies. She is in a tie for 24th heading into the final round. Fellow senior Sara Monberg followed at 3-over par 75, carding four birdies.
AJ Newell eagled on hole No. 5, the only player in the tournament to shoot an eagle on the day. The sophomore also garnered two birdies, but finished the day 7-over par 79.
Freshman Ashlee Pickerell wrapped up the second round at 8-over par 80, carding a trio of birdies.
Oklahoma continued to extend its lead to eight strokes as the Sooners now sit 13-under par 563 heading into the final round. Texas A&M trails at 5-under 571 and host UTSA sits in third at 3-under 573. SMU follows in fourth place at 2-over 578. Tulane and Baylor are knotted in a tie for fifth at 7-over 583, while East Carolina, LSU, Louisville and Kentucky round out the seven through 10 spots. Texas State sits in 11th at 22-over 598, with Colorado, Nebraska and North Texas following Tennessee in the 13th through 15th slots.
