WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Led by Marci Turner (Tompkinsville, Ky.), the No. 12 Tennessee Lady Vol golf team finished in fifth place at The Landfall Tradition. UT concluded the event with a score of 884, one shot back of tying for third place with Ohio State and Tulane and just six shots behind tournament champion New Mexico. The freshman finished the event in sixth place with a career-low score of 216, the third-best score by a freshman in program history. It also ties as the 15th-best total in Big Orange annals.
On the final day, Turner was one of a trio of Lady Vols to shoot a 74. Joining her were preseason All-American Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) and captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario). For the event, Retamoza finished in a tie for 13th place, shooting a 219, while Shepley carded a 225 to tie for 25th. Golda Johansson (Lund, Sweden) shot a 76 and completed the event with a total of 226, good for a 28th-place tie. Sophomore Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.) shot a 78, finishing tied for 44th with a tournament toal of 234.
The fifth-place showing gave UT its third top-five finish out of four fall events. This event featured 12 teams, with Tennessee finishing ahead of No. 21 Tulsa, No. 15 Furman, No. 5 Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Florida, Vanderbilt and Penn State.
Next up for the Big Orange is the Hooters Match Play from Nov. 14-16, which will be the final event of the fall season.
