Head Coach Judi Pavon's golf squad leapt over Oklahoma to take sole possession of second place at the 2003 Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown with a seven-over 295 to finish the round with a 591 (296-295). New Mexico maintained its pace with a second consecutive even-par round to finish with an even-par 588 (288-288), while Lobo Katrina Leckovic posted a two-day 141 (69-72) to take the individual medal lead.
As for the Big Orange, sophomore Violeta Retamoza (Aguascalientes, Mexico) scorched Anthem Country Club to the tune of a round-low three-under 69 to close the day just two strokes off the lead with a third-place-tying 143 (73-69). Junior Teesha Ash (Chattanooga, Tenn.) fired a career-best two-day 145 (73-72) to finish in seventh place, while team captain Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) posted a five-over 77 to tie for 24th place with a 151 (74-77). Senior Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) rounded out UT scoring with a two-day 152 (75-77) to tie for 29th place, while classmate Mary Jan Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) closed out the fivesome's effort with a 154 (75-79) to finish tied for 36th place. As an individual, freshman Holly Cantwell (Morristown, Tenn.) tied for 24th place after two rounds with a 151 (73-78).
Tennessee closes out the event, and the fall season, with a shotgun start on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. PT.
