Feb. 22, 2013

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Lady Vol golf welcomes Teleri Hughes to Rocky Top as the third member of the upcoming 2013 class.

"I am very excited about Teleri coming to Tennessee," head coach Judi Pavon said. "She is hands down the best player in her class from East Tennessee, and she is going to have a big impact on our team!"

Hughes, a Knoxville native, was named the 2012 Knox News Sentinel's PrepXtra Girls Golfer of the Year after a season that concluded with a third-place finish at the Class AAA State Tournament. En route to her achievement, Hughes shot a 67 at the District 4-AAA Tournament, followed by a 2-under par 70 at the Region 2-AAA Championship, where she earned the regional individual title.

A year earlier, Hughes finished fourth as a sophomore, and as a freshman, she finished in a tie for 18th in the 2009 Class AAA state tournament.

Adding to her accolades, she has been named to the Knox News PrepXtra First Team twice and is a three-time All-KIL First Team honoree. She was named the MVP of the Farragut High School girls golf team and earned the Farragut High School Jack Carr Award.

Hughes finished first at the AJGA National Qualifier, AJGA Franklin Qualifier and AJGA Music City Qualifier. She placed in the top five at the PGA Junior Series, AJGA NRP Bluegrass Jr., and Welsh Girls Championship. Hughes also competed in the USGA Women's Am Qualifier.

Hughes joins Hannah Pietila and Lucia Polo as the class of 2013 signees for the Lady Vols.
