NEW ORLEANS - The 15th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vol golf team sits in 10th-place at the conclusion of day one of competition on Sunday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Championship.
In an ultra-competitive field, featuring 12 ranked teams, UT fired a 12-over 300 and is 12 shots back of clubhouse leader and host Tulane at English Turn Golf and Country Club.
Junior Nathalie Mansson and sophomore Sara Monberg both fired 1-over 73s to open the event and are tied for 15th.
Sophomore Erica Popson is tied for 24th at 2-over 74, while senior Lauren Spurlock is deadlocked at 73rd after and 8-over 80 score and freshman Kaitlyn Rohrback sits in a tie for 89th with an 11-over 83.
"We had a decent day today," Lady Vol head coach Judi Pavon said. "The conditions were tough and we lost several shots on the last hole, unfortunately. Nathalie, Erica and Sara all played well on a windy day. We need to have a better fourth score the next two days to be competitive."
Mansson, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, had three birdies and was one-under-par heading into the final hole before she recorded a double-bogey on the par-4, 372-yard No. 18. Popson also tallied three birdies at the par-72, 6,105-yard course.
The Green Wave are two shots ahead of No. 5 Duke (+2), while No. 4 LSU (+3), No. 10 Arizona State (+5) and No. 13 Vanderbilt (+6) round out the top five.
Individually, Duke's Laetitia Beck holds the lead by three strokes after firing a six-under 66 on Sunday. LSU's Megan McChrystal and Jacqueline Hedwall sit in second at 3-under.
Teams begin Monday's second round at 8 a.m. CST. Tee times and live results can be found at golfstat.com.
