Round 2 Results
SORRENTO, Fla. – The Lady Vols remained in 12th place after the second round of the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., as they totaled 298 strokes today. In addition to yesterday’s 293 score, Tennessee’s 591 total puts the squad in a tie with host UCF. Senior Marci Turner continues to lead the team, as she is tied for 11th with a two-under-par 142 total.
“Marci had another solid round out there today, which was really good for her,” head coach Judi Pavon said. “She didn’t hit the ball as well, but her short game saved her.”
Sophomore Angela Oh continued her consistent play with another round of two-over-par 74. Her 148 total over two days puts her in a tie for 42nd. Sophomore Diana Cantú and junior Nicole Smith both recorded rounds of 76, finishing in a tie 60th and 69th, respectively. Cantú was only one over par through the first nine holes, but recorded bogeys on holes No. 1, 6 and 8. She now totals 150 strokes. Smith was two over going into the last two holes, but a double bogey on No. 8 brought her two-day total to 151.
Sophomore Ginny Brown and freshman Rebecca Watson matched their first round scores of 78 and 81, respectively. Brown is in 77th, while Watson ranks 92nd. Watson is competing as an individual.
“As a team, we are really struggling with self-confidence,” Pavon said. “It is going to be tough to turn things around.”
Duke took over at the top of the leaderboard, as the squad is 12 under par. Blue Devils Alison Whitaker and Amanda Blumenherst occupy the top two positions. Whitaker is eight strokes under par (136), while Blumenhurst is seven strokes under par (137).
The Lady Vols will attempt to turn things around tomorrow, as they tee off beginning at 8:39 a.m. Results can be found on www.utladyvols.com.
