BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Lady Vol golf team looks to defend its 2012 title as it returns to action Friday at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
The three day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the par 72, 6,186-yard University Club course.
"We are looking forward to another week of competition," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Being defending champions at an event is always a good feeling and most of the payers have been here before and played well. This is a pretty tough course which suits our team well."
Tennessee took home the team title in 2012, shooting 16-over par 880 with Erica Popson tying for first individually at 2-under.
"We have another new lineup this week, as Mason Chen is playing in the lineup for the first time for us," Pavon said.
UT faces SEC opponents in this weekend's field including No. 8 Arkansas, No. 18 Georgia, Kentucky, No. 30 LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri. Rounding out the rest of the competition is Florida State, ULM, No. 20 NC State, TCU, No. 25 Tulane, UNC-Wilmington and Wake Forest.
"This is another strong field so we need to be tough and ready to compete for three rounds," Pavon said. "Last week we started well but played a little worse toward the end of the tournament. We need to stay focused for 54 holes this week."
The Lady Vols tee off from hole No. 1 at 11:10 ET Friday. UT is paired with Kentucky and host LSU.
UT will have a quick turnaround traveling to the Bryan Collegiate March 29-31, in Brown's Summit, N.C., before beginning preparations for the SEC Championship April 19-21 in Birmingham, Ala.
