Mary Jan Fernandez-Pappas |
April 30, 2009
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Lady Vol golfer Mary Jan Fernandez-Pappas will be playing 100 holes of golf on May 12 in an effort to raise money for the Knoxville Leadership Foundation.
Fernandez-Pappas will be competing in the IRONMAN Golf Tournament at Egwani Farms Golf Course in Rockford, Tenn. With a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., she will be playing with a few other select individuals and is looking for sponsors to help her raise the $1,000 charitable donation to play in the tournament.
During her career with the Lady Vols from 2001-04, Fernandez-Pappas had four top-10 finishes and tied for fifth at both the 2002 and 2003 SEC Women's Golf Championships. At the 2002 SEC tournament she carded her career-best round of 66.
This is the 13th year of the IRONMAN, and the tournament participants have raised $326,576 for the KLF initiatives. The foundation targets five specific areas of need: homes for the working poor, home repair for those who can't afford it, help for non-profit groups, mentoring for children with parents in prison, and an abstinence program to help prevent teenage pregnancy.
If you are interested in sponsoring Fernandez-Pappas you can e-mail her at mjpappas.golf4@yahoo.com.
