KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Vol Hannah Pietila shot 77 on Thursday in the LPGA Volvik Championship Amateur Pre-Qualifier to earn co-medalist honors on the Leslie Park Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
With the win, Pietila advances to the LPGA Volvik Championship Qualifier on Monday, May 22 at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The top two players from that 18-hole event will earn a spot in the LPGA Volvik Championship field next week at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor. The four-day, 72-hole tournament starts on Thursday, May 25 and runs through Sunday, May 28.
As a senior at UT, Pietila competed in every tournament of the season. In the fall, she shot below-par rounds on all three days of the Maryb S. Kauth Invite in San Antonio en route to carding the Vols lowest 54-hole score (209) of the season. Through 11 tournaments this year, Pietila posted her lowest season average (74.66) and carded eight rounds of par or better.
The Brighton, Michigan, native finished her collegiate career with 24 rounds of par or better, seven Top 10 finishes and 11 Top 25 finishes.
