KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Lady Vol golfer Erica Popson earned her third All-America honor in four years as she was named to the 2012-13 Women's Golf Coaches' Association's Second Team All-American, the WGCA announced Wednesday.
Popson, one of the most decorated golfers in UT history, is one of 40 student-athletes named a WGCA All-American, which consists of First, Second and Honorable Mention Teams.
The native of Davenport, Fla., made her final appearance in the Orange and White as she competed as an individual representing Tennessee at the NCAA Championships. She finished in a tie for 20th after a four-day card of 72-75-73-75=295.
Two weeks prior at the NCAA East Regional, Popson opened the first round firing a 5-under par 67. She finished the Regional tied for eighth with Thomas and North Carolina's Jackie Chang at 3-under 213 before defeated the pair in a play off to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Throughout her career, Popson has been a consistent leader for the Lady Vols. During her freshman campaign, she rebounded from a wrist injury to lead UT in all three postseason tournaments, including finishing as runner-up at the 2010 SEC Championship individual title, after losing in a sudden death playoff. She collected SEC All-Freshman honors, as well as All-East Region laurels.
Popson came back for a standout sophomore season, where she finished par or better in more than half of the rounds she played (16 of 31), which tied the UT single-season mark. She led the nation in par five scoring (4.67) and finished at No. 3 in the Golfstat Cup individual rankings. Popson medaled at the SEC Championship and NCAA West Regional en route to a 14th place showing at the NCAA Championships. She was named NGCA and Golfweek First-Team All-American, as well as to First-Team All-SEC.
During her final two years at UT, Popson posted 10 top-10 finishes, including six top-5 performances. Overall, Popson has led the team in stroke average three of her four years and has boasted 18 top-10 finishes in 42 tournaments, recording par or better in 51 of 123 rounds. She has placed in the top-25 in 30 tournaments and has won or tied for first on eight occasions. Popson has earned All-SEC honors three of her four years at UT.
Popson graduated from UT in May 2013 with a degree in Sport Management.
