KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Lady Vol golfers Lauren Spurlock and Sara Monberg were named to the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team on Tuesday.
It's the first selection to the team for the pair who helped lead the Tennessee women's golf team to the NCAA Championships this past spring.
Spurlock, a rising senior from Germantown, Tenn., played in eight tournaments, including her second straight national championship event, in 2009-10 and finished with a 78.33 stroke average.
Monberg will begin her sophomore season with the Orange and White this fall. A native of Juelsminde, Denmark, she competed in all 12 tournaments and was fourth on UT in average (76.53) last season.
Spurlock, who is majoring in sport management, was also named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll last month. Monberg is undecided on her major.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. A total of 494 student-athletes captured the award in 2009-10.
