LOUDON, Tenn. - Lady Vols Ginny Brown and Lauren Spurlock are competing at the TRANS Amateur Championship this week at Tennessee National Golf Course.
The event, sponsored by the Women's TRANS National Golf Association, began Monday with the first of two 18-hole qualifying rounds. A 64-person match play tournament begins on Wednesday.
Brown, a rising senior from Austin, Texas, fired a (+6) 78 for the first qualifying round on the par-72 Greg Norman designed course just southwest of Knoxville. She is tied for 44th among a field of over 100 participants.
Spurlock, a rising junior from Germantown, Tenn., carded a (+12) 84. She is tied for 82nd.
Brown tees off for the second-day of qualifying from hole No. 1 at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Spurlock also tees off from the first hole at 1:50 p.m.
Calle Nielson, of Nashville, Tenn., fired a 6-under 66, and owns the lead by three strokes.
This is the 79th TRANS Amateur Championship. More than half of the fifty U.S. states will be represented as well as an international players from Australia, Canada, Philippines and Singapore.
